North American manufacturer of corrugated and consumer packaging RockTenn has announced plans to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions by 10%, as part of its 2020 sustainability goals.
Further the company aims to reduce water use by 12%, solid waste by 15%, achieve chain-of-custody certifications for 100% of facilities and improve employee safety by 30%.
RockTenn chairman and CEO Jim Rubright said the company has been producing paper-based packaging from recycled materials since its founding in 1936.
"Our core business activities were founded on recycling products that create economic value by reusing materials otherwise bound for waste streams," Rubright added.
The company, which operates locations in the US, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Argentina and China noted that the sustainability goals are further evidence of its ongoing commitment to its environment, people and performance.
