Hyundai is planning to introduce its advanced alternative-fuel compact vehicle IONIQ in South Korea next month.
The car will be available in electric, plug-in gasoline/electric hybrid, or gasoline/electric hybrid powertrain.
Hyundai claims that it will be the first car in the industry to be offered with three powertrain options in a single body type.
IONIQ has been built using an exclusive new platform by the automaker, which was specifically designed to cater to the car's multi-powertrain options.
Hyundai said that the fully-electric (EV) model is powered by a high capacity, ultra-efficient lithium ion battery.
The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version has a combination of fuel-efficient engine with battery power obtained by charging the car with electricity.
The hybrid (HEV) uses the gasoline engine and motion of the car in order to charge the on-board battery, which helps in supplementing the engine's power.
Hyundai Motor R&D Center head Woong-Chul Yang said: "Hyundai Motor has a heritage of building innovative, fuel-efficient vehicles, so we are proud to advance our eco-friendly car line-up with the introduction of IONIQ.
"IONIQ embodies Hyundai Motor's vision to shift the automotive paradigm and future mobility; IONIQ is the fruit of our efforts to become the leader in the global green car market."
The automaker also released a teaser image of the car which has similarities to the Toyota Prius.
