The Canadian Poultry Research Council (CPRC) has received $4m funding from the Harper Government for a Poultry Science Cluster.
The Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada will provide the funding as part of the AgriInnovation Program (AIP), which is part of the Growing Forward 2 program.
To be managed by CPRC, the cluster allows tackling issues in the poultry industry. It paves way to make use of available resources and supports a strong business for investing in Canadian poultry research.
Addressing issues requires the cooperation among scientists, industry partners and government departments across Canada to create synergies in research efforts.
CPRC chairman and turkey producer from Alberta Roelof Meijer said, "Our member organizations have made a strong commitment to Canadian poultry research in both funding and resources and take pleasure in partnering with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in this important initiative.
"The cluster approach allows industry and researchers to take a longer term view than usual when planning and conducting research on important issues for the poultry industry, consumers and society in general."
