Michelin North America Inc. is recalling more than 1 million commercial light-truck tires sold in the United States.
The company announced that it is recalling about 1.3 million of its Michelin LTX M/S commercial light-truck tires. While the tires are sold primarily in the United States, Canada and Mexico, about 1.2 million units were sold stateside, the company said. The identifier for affected tires is LT225/75R16 115/112R LRE.
The recall was issued because of an increasing number of tires that are experiencing tread loss and/or rapid air loss, Michelin said. The recall has been reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The tires typically are found on commercial light trucks, full-size vans, small RVs and large pickup trucks, Michelin said. They were sold as original equipment tires and in the aftermarket.
No deaths or injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled tires. The number of tires returned in the United States has equaled less than 1% of the tires made, or about 200 tires, Michelin said. All returns have been made in the United States.
The recalled tires were manufactured between January 2010 and June 2012, when production was ceased, Michelin said.
Owners of the affected tires may visit an authorized Michelin dealer to have the tires replaced at no charge.
