Mercedes-Benz do Brasil, a Brazilian subsidiary of The Daimler, has received orders to deliver 2,100 Mercedes-Benz bus chassis from four local transport services in Brasília, Brazil.
These orders are awarded in a tender from Brasília's municipal government for renewal of the public passenger transport fleet.
This move is part of the company's plans to update its fleets for local public passenger transport as a preparation for the increased traffic for the 2014 World Soccer Championship and the Olympic Games in 2016.
Daimler Buses head Hartmut Schick said that nine of the twelve cities, in which world championship games will be played, are relying on the BRT system - and many transport operators rely on the company.
"Thus, the BRT market penetration with Mercedes-Benz urban buses in Brazil is at about 70%," Schick added.
Currently, the transportation companies in Brasília hold 3,300 buses in local public passenger transport. Almost 60% of the fleet of the metropolitan region will be replaced with these new buses by December 2013
