Adidas is charged to contend patents

Inventor Rob Lyden’s 54-page trademark and patent infringement complaint against Adidas alleges the brand’s Aug. 1 introduction of the adizero Prime Boost infringes on one of his patents (no. 8,209,883) and suggests Adidas has infringed on eight of his patents and two of his trademarks over the past decade, including the strong-selling Springblade running shoe. According to the complaint, adidas has twice previously settled infringement claims made by Lyden, first in Sep. 2004 for a patent used in athletic shorts and later for “willfully” infringing on four of his patents (nos. 6,601,042; 7,016,860; 7,107,235; and 7,752,775).

The current patent and trademark complaint also names The Finish Line, Foot Locker and Dick’s as defendants, largely for their respective sales of the Adidas Springblade shoe that Lyden contends infringe his Springshoe mark.
