Syngenta Canada and Bayer CropSciences have submitted application to Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Health Canada (HC), seeking approval for their soybean line, SYHT0H2, which has been genetically modified for herbicide resistance.

The soybean line has been developed through recombinant DNA technology.

The submission seeks the use of the soybean line for commercial planting purposes and livestock feed as well as for use in food.

Syngenta Canada and Bayer CropSciences have submitted the description of modification, inheritance and stability of introduced trait, description of novel traits, nutrition evaluation of novel plant, allergenicity/toxicity consideration, and the environmental impact.

The submission is in line with CFIA guidelines for assessment of plants with novel traits (PNTs) for unconfined release, and for novel feeds from plant sources, and HC guidelines for assessment of novel foods.
