Ippolito Fruit and Produce Is Recalling Frisco's, Queen Victoria and Metro Brands Spinach

Ippolito Fruit and Produce is voluntarily recalling Frisco's, Queen Victoria and Metro brands spinach, as they may be contaminated with Salmonella, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced.

Products being recalled include Frisco's spinach of 284g, 170g featuring lot code/best before codes 2 D66258/2013 SE 30, 2 D66258; UPC codes 0 33383 65201 6 and 0 33383 45041 4, respectively.

The recall also includes Queen Victoria spinach of 227g with lot code/best before code 2 D66258/2013 SE 30, UPC 0 60556 00227 9 and Metro brand spinach of 171g, featuring lot code/best before code 2 D66258/2013 SE 30 and 0 59749 89955 0.

These products were distributed in Ontario and Quebec, and may also have been distributed to other provinces.

No illnesses have been reported to date, associated with the consumption of these products.

Ippolito Fruit and Produce is voluntarily recalling the affected products from the marketplace. The CFIA is monitoring the effectiveness of the recall.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in people with weakened immune systems and can result in fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

In some cases, infection with Salmonella can cause the organism getting into the bloodstream and result in severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis.
