West Pharma, a developer and manufacturer of components and systems for injectable drug delivery, announced the commercial introduction of its B.safe syringe safety system.
In 2011, the company acquired the IP and rights to this system and has completed the product development, including the first phase of commercial scale-up at its safety systems manufacturing center in France.
It will transition to high-volume manufacturing in the first half of 2013, said the company.
The system will help protect against needlestick injury when using a prefilled syringe and will complement the company's portfolio of prefilled syringe offerings and technologies.
West syringe systems strategic market development vice president Glenn Thorpe said the company was happy to be in a position to offer our customers a globally available safety system.
"With the completion of the steps necessary to offer this system commercially, we are in position to meet growing market demand in this area, and are pleased to have already signed our first commercial agreement and commenced shipments," said Thorpe.
