Commercial Vehicle Manufacturing Volumes in The UK Dropped by 23% in The H1 of 2014

Commercial vehicle manufacturing volumes in the UK dropped by 23% in the first half of 2014 to 37,460 units, compared to 48,664 units in the same period last year, according to the latest data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Volumes in the domestic and export dropped by 22.6% and 23.5%, respectively.

For the month of June, volumes dropped by 25.4% to 6,348 units, compared to 8,507 units in the same month last year.

SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said: "UK commercial vehicle manufacturing figures continue to be swayed by operational restructuring in 2013 and the pull-forward of demand in the heavy commercial sector.

"There are signs of optimism, however, with double-digit growth in European commercial vehicle registrations, and the emergence of new products and investments across the sector."

The trade association also published a report on UK car production. For the first half of 2014, car manufacturing volumes were up 3.5% to 791,314 units from 764,390 during the same period in 2013.

SMMT is one of the trade associations in the UK that supports the interests of the automotive industry, promoting a united position to government, stakeholders and the media.
