Chrysler Is Planning to Use Wabco's Vacuum Pump Technology in Its Passenger Cars

US-based automaker Chrysler has awarded a multi-year contract to Wabco, a tier-one supplier to the commercial and automotive vehicle industry, to deliver vacuum pump technology to be equipped in its passenger cars in North America, Europe and Asia.

According to the supplier, its vacuum pump technology will enhance vehicle's fuel economy while reducing emissions.

Vacuum pumps are a main component of the braking system of passenger cars powered by diesel, gasoline direct-injection (GDI) and variable valve timing (VVT) engines.

The company said that the vacuum pumps will also offer non-braking functions including actuation for variable-geometry turbochargers.

WABCO claims that its patented vacuum pump design will ensure no disruption to the vehicle's main brake-support function.
