Hatch's Percutaneous Spinal Stabilization System Obtains US Patents

Hatch Medical, a US-based incubator and broker of medical device technologies, has received US patents for its percutaneous spinal stabilization system.

The patents, no. 8,357,197 and no. 8,357,198, cover a minimally invasive device designed as an effective alternative to treat discogenic back pain.

The system involves an image-guided, 10 gauge percutaneous placement of a series of curved stabilization rods cross-linking adjacent vertebrae.

Riverside Methodist Hospital vascular and interventional radiology co-director Kevin McGraw said, "Our system permits a fast, efficacious and cost effective option to stabilize and support the targeted region."

Hatch Medical principal member Steven Hvozda said the issuance of the patents is a supportive step in the evolution of new spinal stabilization devices.

"We're excited to move aggressively forward with the implementation of our market strategy," Hvozda added.
