Fresh Del Monte Produce reported that its net earnings for the third quarter of 2012 soared 93%to$23.5m,compared to$12.2m in the same period the previous year.
According to the company financial results were recorded for the quarter ended 28 September 2012,it has reported earnings per diluted share of$0.21 in the third quarter of 2011.
Net sales declined 0.8%to$788.8m due to lower sales in the banana business division,as a result of continued lower banana sales in the Middle East secondary markets and in Europe.
Fresh Del Monte Produce chief executrive Mohammad Abu-Ghazaleh said that the company posted a strong bottom-line performance.
"We saw excellent growth in our global fresh-cut business.The decision to take full control of the marketing,sales and distribution of our products at the beginning of the year in Southern Europe contributed to our improved performance,"Abu-Ghazaleh added.
