Automotive supplier Continental has unveiled its 'Simplify your Drive for Electric Vehicles (EV)' concept vehicle technology.
The technology acts a navigation device, fuel gauge and displays the range to be travelled by the remaining battery by making calculations that use topographical data from the navigation in the eHorizon (electronic horizon) and additional energy consumers on board.
Continental electronics is also claimed to display the route taken by the vehicle including the motorway, through the city, or along a country road, uphill or downhill, and whether the driver is using the heating or the air-conditioning system.
Continental Interior division strategy and development department head Ralf Lenninger said till now the vehicles have estimated the remaining range on the basis of the average consumption over the last kilometers covered.
"With Simplify your Drive for Electric Vehicles, we are turning the tables, so to speak, and allowing the vehicle to look forward," Lenninger added.
"This allows us to make a much more accurate statement regarding the range and the driver does not have to fear a breakdown due to an empty battery."
Features of the vehicle include a 12.3inch touchscreen monitor that uses the telematics system AutoLinQ to monitor the charging process of the EVs online.
Additionally, the technology suggests the driver to switch off additional energy consumers or making a stop along the planned route at a charging station in case the battery charge is not sufficient for reaching the destination.
