New Flyer Industries is equipping 34 units of York, Ontario-bound buses with DIWA.5 automatic transmissions from Voith Turbo, a provider of intelligent drive solutions and systems.
The DIWA.5 transmission will facilitate streamlined gear shifts, which would reduce the wear and tear of the vehicle and increase driving comfort as well.
The technology will facilitate long first gear that will reduce gearshifts up to 50%, while the hydraulic torsional vibration damper introduced by the company will reduce engine vibrations.
Presently, the transmission is being delivered to New Flyer, and the final delivery is expected to take place in fall.
Voith Turbo regional sales manager Brian Sharp said: "The York Region Transit Authority has put over 250 buses using DIWA technology into service since 2003, and will soon benefit from an additional 34 from New Flyer Industries,
"DIWA technology not only helps to improve fuel efficiency in buses; it also provides a smoother and more comfortable ride for passengers.
"We look forward to these buses being delivered to York, Ontario later this year."
