Subaru Has Released Its First Hybrid System in Japan

Subaru, the automobile manufacturing division of Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI), has unveiled specification prototype of its first hybrid system in Japan.

The hybrid system is powered by the partially modified 2L DOHC Horizontally-Opposed 4-cylinder gasoline engine that came with reduction in engine friction.

According to the company, the system used a motor assist function to offer fuel consumption of 20kmpL in the JC08 mode.

The system consists of a motor based on the Lineartronic (CVT) that was installed behind the primary pulley and a high voltage battery.

Electric vehicle (EV) driving is provided by the system at low speeds, along with a motor assist driving at medium speeds.

The components for the hybrid system including the motor and a high voltage battery are installed under the cargo space to obtain the symmetrical all wheel drive (AWD) design, while achieving low center of gravity and weight balance similar to the gasoline model.
