Continental Has Extended Its Nuremberg Center of Competence in Germany

Automotive supplier Continental has expanded its Nuremberg center of competence in Germany, for testing electric vehicles.

The company has invested EUR2.6m in its new testing facility located at its HighTech Center North that will conduct tests on power electronics of the electric vehicles.

With the expansion and investment, the company has combined all the test benches together into the new test center located in the surrounding area of the development departments.

Continental Nueremberg Hybrid Electric Vehicle Business Unit head Xavier Pujol said that the move will allow the company to blend testing and development of power-electronics systems and refine products more quickly.

"The new test center will also allow us to cut costs considerably over the long run and thus improve the competitiveness of the solutions that we develop and manufacture for customers worldwide," Pujol added.

The company is also planning to start the serial production of third generation power electronics at the Nueremberg plant in 2014.
