Auto manufacturer BYD Motors introduced world’s largest battery electric vehicle named The Lancaster eBus at the 2014 American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Expo in Houston.
The vehicle was designed and manufactured in Lancaster, California, the town it has been named after.
Lancaster is a 60-foot, articulated battery-electric bus and features BYD Iron-Phosphate Battery which does not have the risk of catching fire, is completely recyclable, and has long-cycle technology.
The makers claim that the bus can run for a full day on a single charge with peak charging time of up to 4 hours.
The bus can go up to 170+ miles with up to 120 passengers on board.
BYD vice president Micheal Austin said: "BYD is leading the Renaissance in Transit - a rebirth of electrified transportation...but this time without miles of electrified rails, ugly over-head wires or charging stations."
