US-based Global Culinary Investments is recalling 1,331 pounds of chicken empanadas, as they contain monosodium glutamate which is not mentioned on the label of the packaging.
The recall has been initiated when the company discovered an error in the labeling, according to the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The products subject to recall include 10-lb bulk cases of Luca Chicken Empanada with a case code of 10853349004002 and those with establishment number P-44923 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
These products were produced on various dates from 4 September 2012 through 21 November 2012. They have a best by date between 4 March 2013, and 21 May 2013. The 10-lb bulk cases were distributed in the Houston, Texas.
FSIS and the company have received no reports of injury linked to the consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about injury have been advised to contact a healthcare provider.
This recall has been classified as Class III, which indicates a situation where the use of the product will not cause adverse health consequences.
