Japanese automaker Toyota Motor is set to introduce its powered by a series of newly-developed gasoline engines that offer thermal efficiency and fuel efficiency improvements of around 10%.
The new engines feature combustion and loss-reduction technologies, which the company has refined in its hybrid engines.
Toyota's new series initially includes two engines such as a 1.3L gasoline engine and a 1.0 gasoline engine. The 1.3L gasoline engine uses the Atkinson cycle to offer a maximum thermal efficiency of 38%.
Developed in collaboration with Daihatsu Motor, the 1.0L gasoline engine offers a maximum thermal efficiency of 37%.
Vehicles of the carmaker, which were scheduled for partial redesign in future, will feature the new engines. The company also plans to introduce 14 engine variations globally by 2015.
