MMK Group Registered a 6.9 Percent Increase Year on Year in Its Crude Steel Output

In the fourth quarter of last year, the crude steel production of Russian steelmaker Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) totaled 2.969 million mt, down 11.6 percent compared to the previous quarter. In addition, for the whole of 2012, MMK Group registered a 6.9 percent increase year on year in its crude steel output to 13.037 million mt.

MMK Group’s finished steel product output in 2012 amounted to 11.936 million mt, up seven percent year on year. In particular, The group’s finished steel product output at its Magnitogorsk facility (OJSC MMK) in 2012 amounted to 11.029 million mt, up 3.6 percent compared to 2011. The finished steel product output of MMK-Metiz in 2012 totalled 493,000 mt (not included in the finished product figure for MMK Group), up 6.2 percent year on year. The group’s Turkish subsidiary MMK-Metalurji’s finished steel product output in 2012 totaled 900,000 mt, up 1.8 times compared to 2011.

During the fourth quarter, MMK's pig iron production dropped to 2.514 million mt, down 2.2 percent, its long product output decreased by 16.6 percent to 404,000 mt and its hot rolled flat steel product output decreased by 8.6 percent to 1.269 million mt - all on quarter-on-quarter basis.

According to the MMK statement, continued growth in consumption of steel products is expected in the domestic market in 2013. This growth along with the production capacities for high-quality cold rolled and galvanized products launched in 2012 allow MMK to anticipate a higher volume of shipments of finished steel products in 2013 than in the previous year.
