Philips Has Opened Its Second High Power LED Production Facility in Bayan Lepas,Malaysia

Philips Opens New LED Facility in Malaysia

Philips has opened its second high power LED production facility in Bayan Lepas,Malaysia.

The company chief executive officer,Frans van Houten said the company is keen to expand these businesses,citing Malaysia as an mportant country for Philips.

The 300,000 square foot facility in Penang will substantially increase the production capacity of Philips Luxeon power LED lights and allow the company to meet the increasing demand of LED lighting.

Mr van Houten said that Philips had invested substantially in the facility,but also in human capital development in order to help Malaysia achieve its aspiration to become a high-income nation by 2020.Philips views Malaysia as offering vast opportunities for expansion and the company is eager to tap into its intellectual talent.

Mr van Houten described Malaysia as an early adopter that was showcasing innovations to the rest of the world,such as deploying LEDs on highways from Kuala Lumpur to the airport in Sepang.

His project will be used as a reference on LED lighting on highways to make streets safer,he said hope more countries will follow Malaysia example in equipping roads with LEDs.

Other projects in Malaysia lit by Philips LED solutions were the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre(KLCC),pictured above,Bukit Aman police station headquarters and the Ministry of Defence in Putrajaya.

The new production facility will also be the first in Malaysia to be completely fitted with LED lights.
