The exports of fabric and garments from southeastern European country of Bulgaria increased by 8.5 percent year-on-year to a record-high of €1.8 billion last year, reports Sofia News Agency.
According to the report, there was an increase of approximately €130 million in export earnings of the Bulgarian textile and clothing sector in 2013, compared to the exports recorded in the previous year.
The Bulgarian textile and clothing sector was a thriving business prior to 2008, when the economic crisis forced several business to shutdown or reduce their production.
However, 2012 showed revival in the sector, and given the recovery in other markets, Bulgarian textile and apparel sector has an optimistic outlook for 2014.
At present, the Bulgarian textile and clothing industry employs over 120,000 people.
Meanwhile, German companies have shown interest in investing in Bulgaria’s textile sector. Last year, German investments in Bulgaria increased and it turned out to be the third largest investor in Bulgaria with an investment of €199.4 million.
In mid-2013, several businessmen from Shaoxing city in China visited Burgas, the second-largest city on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, to explore construction of a textile factory and a showroom.
