Asus said on Tuesday that its net profit rose 21% year-on-year in 2012, the reason was driven by the tablet computer sales growth, while non operating profit also increased.
Asus said that the net profit was NT 5.89 billion yuan (about 198 million dollars) in the fourth quarter until December 31 of last year, the same period in 2011 was NT 48.8 billion. The non-operating profit was NT 12.7 billion, higher than the NT 5.61 billion in the same period in 2011.
According to the statistics of FactSet, the analysts expected the Asus’ net profit of NT 57.2 billion of the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter, the revenue of Asus grew 14% to NT 116.6 billion, higher than the NT 102.65 billion in the same period in 2011. Asus expected that the notebook shipments in the first quarter of this year wouldl be 4.7 million units, less than 5.5 million in the fourth quarter, while the tablet PC shipments will be 300 million units, flat with the fourth quarter.
