Development of National Highways Is Taken up Under National Highways Development

The development of National Highways is taken up mainly under National Highways Development Project & Non NHDP. There are 7 phases of NHDP covering about 47,000 kilometer length.

Under Non NHDP, major program include improvement of riding quality, widening/strengthening of existing pavement, construction of bridges/culverts etc.

Besides, for development of road network in North Eastern part of the country, a Special Accelerated Road Development Program including Arunachal Pradesh package covering about 6,418 kilometer length of roads including State roads have been taken up.

Similarly, for development of roads in Left Wing Extremism affected areas, about 5,477 kilometer length of roads including State roads have also been taken up. There is no scheme for development of NHs with funding assistance from the State Governments.
