FDI Into China Declined by 7.3 Percent Year on Year to $9.27 Billion

In January this year, foreign direct investment (FDI) into China (excluding the banking, securities and insurance sectors) declined by 7.3 percent year on year to $9.27 billion, as announced by China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC) on February 20. In particular, FDI into China’s manufacturing sector in January totaled $4.42 billion, down 5.8 percent year on year and accounting for 47.7 percent of the total.

Meanwhile, in January new enterprises established in China by foreign direct investment totaled 1,883 units, up 34.3 percent year on year. In the given month, EU-27 countries established 140 enterprises in China, up 30.8 percent year on year, with a total investment of $820 million, up 81.8 percent year on year. Foreign direct investment from the US in China in January wasresponsible for the establishment of 94 new enterprises, up 9.3 percent,with a total investment of $270 million, down 20.0 percent, both year on year.
