US stocks rose as investors weighed better-than-expected jobs data against political turmoil in Portugal ahead of a key jobs report due Friday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 56.14 points, or 0.4 per cent, to 14,988.55, in a quiet session that closed at 1pm EDT ahead of Thursday's Independence Day holiday. Stock trading is set to re-open on Friday
