MAN Truck Division Will Begin Reducing Its Production of Trucks

MENAFN reported that MAN truck division's director, Mr Anders Nielsen stated that starting January 14, the German company will begin reducing its production of trucks, reported Reuters citing daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

Mr Nielsen said that the move comes as global economic uncertainties pushed customers to postpone placing major orders.

The company has asked for subsidies under the German government's short-time work program, called "Kurzarbeit", for the first half of next year, with the step expected to affect 3,500 workers at a plant in Munich and 1,800 in the northern German city of Salzgitter.

He noted that MAN, which has no plans to cut jobs, may extend the 'Kurzarbeit', depending on how the market develops during the year.

Mr Nielsen added that over the coming 2 to 3 years, the business is expected to be stable at a "lower level" and that he would work on increasing profitability at the company to get closer to top rival, Daimler.
