China Shagang Group, the biggest private steel group and the biggest rebar producer in China, was interested in exporting rebar products to Taiwan. It has 13 million tons capacity for rebar products currently, having passed the requirement of mill inspection, and on the way for product inspection and registration application to complete the import approval procedures from Taiwan.
The total output of crude steel in Taiwan is around 22 million tons and the annual demand for rebar is only 5~6 million tons. As a result, the potential for Shagang's rebar import news has made panic among the rebar mills and they will hold a meeting for discussion on Mar 6.
The agent of Shagang in Taiwan indicates that Shagang will only export
SD 280W weldable rebar. According to estimate, the product demand is only 2000~3000 per tons monthly demand in Taiwan.
