The Ukraine Is Planning to Introduce Export Duty on Roundwood

The Ukraine is planning to introduce export duty on roundwood for a period of five years starting from 1 January 2014. Under the latest draft law, which was examined by the Ukrainian parliament in February 2013 in its first reading, an export duty of 40% of the invoice value or at least €17/m3 is to be charged on roundwood (tariff no. 4403). Exports of sawmill residues (tariff nos. 4401 21 0000 and 4401 22 0000) are to be charged with duty of 20% of the commodity value or at least €7/m3. From what market players say it is yet currently unclear, however, whether or not this law will actually be adopted by parliament in a next reading and subsequently enter into force on 1 January next year.
