According to Oman Gas Company which will supervise and manage the pipeline project, a contract for the construction of a major gas pipeline from the Saih Nihayda gas field in central Oman to the Duqm industrial area will be awarded by the end of 2013 and the project will be completed by 2016.
Mr Yousuf al Ojaili CEO of OGC said that the 240 kilometers long pipeline will deliver 25 million cubic meter of gas per day. It project will employ 36 pipes and will be 240 kilometers long. The contract for supply of pipes will be awarded in the Q1 of 2013 and the construction contract will be awarded by the end of 2013. The pipeline will be ready by 2016.
Mr Ojaili said that front end engineering sign work for the project has been completed. We are currently evaluating tenders for the pipe supply contract. Several companies from various countries are bidding for the contract. The construction contract is also open to international companies. As it is a big project, we want competition in bidding which will ensure quality work.
He said that he pipeline has enough capacity to cater to gas demand in the Duqm area for the next 20 years if not more. OGC currently manages 2,300 kilometers of gas pipelines which will increase to 2,500 kilometers in the next two to 3 years.
