Smurfit Kappa will present its new bulk-corrugated pack, called Viscontainer, at German trade fair FachPack
In a statement, the firm described its Viscontainer as a "bulk packaging solution" that can be used for any liquid or paste substance other than dangerous goods. It describes it as a low-cost alternative to plastic containers.
The Viscotainer is mainly constructed with outer packaging and an octagonal inner ring made from a special cardboard, Linacor.? ?Smurfit Kappa describes Linacor as "an extremely strong double-walled board that is not only sealed watertight, but also consists of wet strength paper." Polyethylene liners and additional parts according to the liquid fittings complete the Viscotainer.
Smurfit Kappa West account manager Thomas Geisler said: "Plastic IBCs are rigid, empty containers occupying the same storage space as filled ones, resulting in 1000 litres of 'air' in the warehouse. An empty Viscotainer, on the other hand, lies flat and takes up very little space during transportation and storage."
According to the firm, the Viscotainer is "easy to set up" and simple to fill, and is emptied without bacterial or other contamination, with protection from UV radiation.
The FachPack2012 show takes place in Nuremberg, Germany, from 25-27 September. Smurfit Kappa will be at Halle 8/Stand 325.
