The latest ABS Retail Trade figures show that Australian retail turnover rose 0.1 per cent in August 2014, following a rise of 0.4 per cent in July 2014, seasonally adjusted, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
In seasonally adjusted terms, the largest contributor was other retailing (1.6 per cent) followed by food retailing (0.3 per cent), cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (0.2 per cent) and clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (0.3 per cent). The industries which fell were department stores (-2.9 per cent) and household goods retailing (-0.8 per cent).
In seasonally adjusted terms, the states that displayed rises were Victoria (0.7 per cent), Northern Territory (1.7 per cent) and Western Australia (0.1 per cent ), whilst South Australia and Tasmania were relatively unchanged (0.0 per cent). The states that displayed falls were Queensland (-0.6 per cent), New South Wales (-0.1 per cent) and the Australian Capital Territory (-0.4 per cent).
The trend estimate for Australian turnover rose 0.2 per cent in August 2014, following a rise of 0.2 per cent in July 2014.
