Brazil's Garment Sector Production Rose by 5.33 Percent Year-on-Year

Brazil's garment sector production rose by 5.33 percent year-on-year, while textile sector output declined by 2.83 percent year-on-year, according to a statement released by Associação Brasileira da Indústria Têxtile de Confecção (ABIT or Brazilian Association of Textile and Apparel).   However, on a month-on-month basis, textile sector production grew 1.5 percent, while clothing sector fell 5.9 percent.   The retail performance was positive in January 2013 and textile and apparel sales volume grew by 4.95 percent year-on-year, while revenue increased by 9.41 percent year-on-year.   In the first two months of 2013, Brazil's textile and apparel imports totaled US$ 1.2 billion, registering an increase of 1.5 percent year-on-year. Clothing imports, however, decreased by 2.24 percent year-on-year to US$ 452.6 million, the statement said.   In January-February 2013, Brazil's textile and clothing exports rose by one percent year-on-year to US$ 201.3 million, thus registering a deficit of US$ 998.7 million.
