US Coal Production Totaled About 18.5 Million St in The Week That Ended Saturday

US coal production totaled about 18.5 million st in the week that ended Saturday, the Energy Information Administration said Thursday.

This production estimate, based on railcar loadings, is 3.5% higher than the previous week's estimate and 2.1% above the estimate in the comparable week in 2012, EIA said.

Coal output east of the Mississippi River totaled 8.0 million st in the most recent week, while production west of the Mississippi totaled 10.5 million st, the agency said.

US year-to-date production totaled 331.2 million st, 7.1% lower than the comparable year-to-date coal production in 2012, EIA said.

In April, US coal production totaled about 78.7 million st, some 1.4% higher than the same month in 2012, the agency said.

Production east of the Mississippi totaled 35.6 million st in April, while output west of the Mississippi totaled 43.1 million st, it added.
