China imported 173,100 tons of cotton in November 2013, up 32,000 tons or 22.6 percent compared to October, but a decrease of 43 percent year-on-year, according to Customs Statistics, China Cotton Association reported.
The average import price of cotton during the month stood at US$ 2,236/ton, which is US$ 53 or 2.4 percent more than the October import price, and 6.4 percent more compared to the average import price in November 2012.
In fact, the average cotton import price increased for the first time during the year, the Association said.
From January to November 2013, China imported a total of 3.541 million tons of cotton, registering a decline of 23.1 percent year-on-year.
During the current cotton season beginning September 1, 2013, China’s total cotton imports stood at 515,600 tons, showing a drop of 38.5 percent year-on-year.
In the previous cotton season from September 2012 to August 2013, China imported 4.396 million tons of cotton, down 19.2 percent year-on-year.
