The Domestic Steel Production Was Down by 0.33% in 2012 Compared to 2011

According to Colombia’s steel institution ANDI, the domestic steel production was down by 0.33% in 2012 compared to 2011, reached 1.63 million tons.

On the other hand, the imported steel product was up by 6.6 % between January and November, reached 2.38 million tons from 2.23 million tons in the same period of 2011.

The director of ANDI, Juan Manuel Lesme, especially pointed out that the imported steel long products was up by 42% between January and November in 2012, from 412,000 tons to 585,000 tons, which impact a lot the domestic steel sector. The most important countries that export steel long products to Colombia are Mexico (246,000 tons) and Turkey (80,000 tons).
