The Supreme Court is to take up different important cases from the week beginning including utilization of IB funds for political purposes and fixation of CNG prices.
According to the cause list, three benches each would hear cases in Islamabad and Lahore Registry and one bench in the Peshawar Registry. Officials of Ministry of Petroleum and Ogra are to present a new formula for the fixation of CNG prices in the Supreme Court.
Ogra has so far failed to devise a price formula to the satisfaction of the CNG Association and as a result majority of the fuel stations are observing strike on the plea that they cannot bear losses.
On the other hand, some stations in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi and other cities are providing the fuel where long queues of vehicles are seen every day for twenty fours.
People have requested the Apex Court to order the OGRA and Ministry of Petroleum to resolve the issue without delay.
They said that the government can provide some relief by reducing its own taxes on the CNG sector, which is heavily taxed as compared to industrial sector. On the other hand an application has been filed in the Lahore Registry of the Supreme Court requesting to end hanging sentence. Dr Yaqub Bhatti has submitted a list of condemned prisoners in Punjab jails through Barrister Zafarullah Khan.
