The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has revised the time of gas supply to captive power plants of the large-scale textile spinning industry at the request of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Punjab, reports The Nation.
As per the revised schedule, SNGPL would now supply gas from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. during the holy month of Ramadan, instead of the earlier schedule of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
By revising the gas supply schedule, the Federal Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has saved one million jobs of the Punjab-based textile industry, SM Tanveer, chairman APTMA Punjab said.
He said that an APTMA delegation, led by its group leader Mr. Gohar Ejaz had met Mr. Abbasi and other officials after a general body meeting of APTMA Punjab authorized the association’s leadership to decide on appropriate action, including a shutdown, after holding talks with the Government.
According to Mr. Tanveer, the Government functionaries understood the viewpoint of APTMA leadership that gas supply was useless during the day when there is electricity supply, and agreed to change the daily gas supply schedule.
The revised gas supply schedule will enable textile mills to continue operations for nearly 20 hours a day, making full use of both electricity supply and gas supply, he added.
