Ghana Builds 40m Pounds Recycling Plant

According to reports on Ghana TV [GTV], the recycling plant is being built by ZoomLion Ghana, at Adjenkotoku, a suburb of Accra [capital of Ghana].

A ZoomLion spokesman told reporters that the facility would cost 40m pounds and be the "largest recycling facility in Africa" once built. It is 90% complete and will have the capacity to reprocess materials such as plastics.

The facility is also expected to produce compost or organic fertiliser.

The spokesman also said that the plant will be able to process 300 tonnes of waste in an eight-hour shift and will have a sorting and buy-back centre.

ZoomLion did not specify when it will finish building the plant.

The Ghanaian Vice President John Dramani Mahama recently visited the plant. He told reporters that he was "impressed" with what he saw, and said the project would be replicated in other major cities in Ghana, such as Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale, where generation of waste is very high.
