It is learned that Brazil’s steelmaker Gerdau produced 4.4 million tons in the first quarter of this year which means a decrease of 11% compared to the same period last year.
According to the company, the reduction reflects its adjustment in each region which the company has presence. For example, their production in North America market was adjusted to meet the stock levels and lower demand in the market due to colder winter in the first quarter, the production in this region decline 22% to 1.474 million tons.
On the other hand, Brazil had moderate performance by 1.7 million tons, down by 2% compare to same period last year. In Latin America (except Brazil), the crude steel production totaled 426,000 tons which was down by 9%.
