According to the data released by the Japan Ship Exporters' Association (JSEA), Japanese new ship export orders in March this year decreased by 4.55 percent on tonnage basis compared to February, amounting to 47 ships, unchanged from February, totaling 1.89 million gross tons, consisting of nine tankers, 35 bulk carriers and two general cargos. In March 2013, Japan's new ship export orders had totaled 49 ships amounting to 2.72 million gross tons.
In the first quarter of the current year, Japanese shipbuilders received new export orders for a total of 120 ships with an aggregate of 5.29 million gross tons, increasing by 54.93 percent year on year.
On the other hand, in March this year Japan delivered 30 ships totaling 1.33 million gross tons for export, increasing from 25 ships totaling 1.19 million gross tons recorded in February. In March 2013, Japan's new ship deliveries for export had totaled 34 ships with 1.43 million gross tons. Meanwhile in the first three months of this year, Japan delivered 85 ships for export, totaling 3.72 million gross tons, decreasing by 16.07 percent year on year.
