The Economy of France Increases by 0.5% in Q2 Over Q1

France's gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 0.5 percent in the second quarter of the current year on quarter-on-quarter basis, following two consecutive quarters of 0.2 percent quarter-on-quarter decrease, according to the detailed statistics released by France's National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE). The increase in the second quarter is the largest increase recorded since the first quarter of 2011. The annual growth rate carried over at the mid-year point is 0.1 percent.

During the second quarter, in France household consumption expenditure increased by 0.4 percent quarter on quarter, while it had indicated a 0.1 percent quarter-on-quarter decrease in the first quarter. In France, final domestic demand excluding changes in inventories contributed to GDP acceleration with a 0.3 percentage point increase in the second quarter, after 0.1 point decrease in the previous quarter. Meanwhile, both exports (two percent after -0.5 percent in the previous quartet) and imports (1.9 percent after 0.1 percent) rebounded on quarter-on-quarter basis.
