In 2011,the value-added of corporate units of cultural and related industries(hereafter referred to as cultural industries)was 1,347.9 billion yuan,up by 21.96 percent year-on-year,4.0 percentage points higher than the average annual GDP growth rate at current price in the same period,and the cultural industries continued to maintain the trend of rapid development.
The value-added of corporate units of cultural industries accounted for 2.85 percent of gross domestic product(GDP)of the year,up by 0.1 percentage points over last year,and the share of the value-added of corporate units of cultural industries in GDP increased steadily.
The structure of cultural industries has been optimized constantly,and cultural service industry developed rapidly.In 2011,the value-added of cultural service providing units accounted for 55.9 percent of the value-added of corporate units of cultural industries,an increase of 2.2 percentage points over last year;that accounted for 3.68 percent of the value-added of tertiary industry,an increase of 0.25 percentage points over last year.

1.Explanatory Notes
The value-added of cultural and related industries means the output value more than the value of intermediate inputs during the producing process of activities that provide cultural and entertainment products and services for the public,as well as the resident activity units associated with these activities,in accordance with the"Cultural and Related Industries Classification Standard"issued by the NBS in 2004.
2.Statistical Coverage
2011 is not a census year.According to the data sources,the calculating scale of national value-added of cultural and related industries in 2011 only included corporate units.On the basis of the different nature of the activities,corporate units of cultural and related industries can be divided into three categories:units manufacturing cultural products,units marketing cultural products,and units providing cultural services.The range of the industries included 80 groups and classes in the"Industrial Classification for National Economic Activities"(GB/T4754-2002).Of which,manufacturing units involved 18 groups and classes,marketing units involved 17 classes,and services providing units involved 45 classes.
3.Survey Methods
According to the"Statistics Program of Cultural and Related Industries(Trial)"developed by the NBS,the national value-added data of cultural and related industries in 2011 was calculated mainly using income approach.Of which,the value-added of the units manufacturing cultural products above designated size,units marketing cultural products above designated size,and units providing cultural services was calculated according to the annual report of the NBS;while the value-added of the units manufacturing cultural products below designated size,and units marketing cultural products below designated size was computed based on related structures and coefficients of the second national economic census(2008).
