It is reported that Iran plans to quadruple its aluminum production by 2025 with investment to the industry at nearly US$11.4 billion. According to Imidro, the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization, Iran needs extra supplies to meet demand which is growing by 10% per year. Currently, Iran produces 338,000 tons of aluminum and plans to produce 770,000 tons in 2016 and 1.5 million tons by 2025. According to an Iranian news site, Iran's aluminum production in the first four month of the Iranian calendar totaled 119,560 tons, if this rate persists, Iran would produce 358,680 this year which is a 6% increase to last year. Western sanctions at Iran have dented its economy and resource acquisition. As Iran relies heavily on imports of raw material for aluminum production, cost has increased due to the sanctions. In turn, Iran increased its alumina purchase from China and India to limit the effects of the western sanctions.
