Taiwan market:Effects of Windows 8 to emerge in 4Q12,says ViewSonic Julian Ho,Taipei;Alex Wolfgram,DIGITIMES.The LCD monitor market in Taiwan showed stabilization in the first quarter and is expected to further grow this year as the launch of Windows 8 is likely to stimulate demand in the fourth quarter,ViewSonic has said.
The firm said that the touch panel feature included in Windows 8 will attract consumers but it will not see immediate growth from the launching due to the amount of time consumers will need before they become more aware of the product.
Other industry sources,however,said they have more conservative views about the effect of Windows 8 in the market due to a slowdown with desktop PCs,but Viewsonic predicts that it will see a 5%yearly growth.
Meanwhile,Viewsonic noted that ultrathin and LED-backlit products are increasingly in demand as the price differences between direct backlit LED TVs and CCFL ones are decreasing and that LED TVs will see a new wave of sales in Southeast Asia during May.
