The ISLE/LET Diploma in Lighting will be offered at Mewar University,a college of architecture in Delhi

A new agreement between the Lighting Education Trust(LET)and the Indian Society of Lighting Engineers(ISLE)will see the LET Diploma course made available in India.

The course will be known as the ISLE/LET Diploma in Lighting after a memorandum of understanding was signed by the president of ISLE,Mr Gulshan Aghi, and the chairman of LET,Hugh Ogus.

The agreement will last for an initial period of five years and will see LET make available all the course material, advise on the delivery of the course, assist in the adaptation and provide appropriate training for the tutors either in the UK or in India.

During the organisation of this agreement,Hari Mamak, past president of ISLE and former CEO of Philips Lighting India commented:"The lighting industry in India is progressing at about 12 per cent per year and the shortage of lighting educated personnel is being increasingly felt not only by the Industry but also by specifiers and town planners."

The diploma will mainly be a taught course rather than a practical one,and is available through Mewar University,a college of architecture in Delhi.

The first intake of full time students will begin in July and is expected to complete the course in ten months.

ISLE has seven regional offices around India and has entered into discussions to roll out the diploma nationwide.
