Egypt Will Grow by 2.88% During 2011-16 as Compared to 1.22% in The Previous Five Years

Spirits consumption in Egypt will grow by 2.88% during 2011-16 as compared to 1.22% in the previous five years, according to a report by Canadean Wines & Spirits.

The report, "The Future of the Spirits Market in Egypt, to 2016", says that all the categories within the sector will post positive compound annual growth rate (CAGR) during 2011-16, which was not the case in 2006-11 period.

Gin & genever, rum & cane spirits, tequila & mezcal, and whiskey, which have all posted negative CAGR in 2006-11 will have positive growth rates of 1.45%, 1.88%, 1.79%, and 2.71% respectively.

The highest CAGR of 3.45% is forecast for liqueurs & cocktails, followed by brandy at 3.16%, specialty spirits 2.89%, whiskey, and vodka 2.63%.

The year-on-year growth of spirits consumption is expected to fall to 0.8% in 2013 from 1.5% in 2012, and then remain stable at 0.7% for the next three years till 2016.

The mainstream variety of spirits, at 3.38%, will record higher CAGR in consumption than the other price segments, followed by the premium segment at 2.9% and super premium at 2.79%.
