Facebook is rolling out an update for its iOS app, which aims to better inform users what’s going on in their area.
The update to the Events section allows users to search for events in their location, rather than wait for invites.
Right now the feature is becoming available in ten major cities and enables members to search for events in various categories. Facebook members can browse genres like sports & fitness, music, nightlife and more.
This allows users to be proactive and seek out events rather than be reactive when it comes to goings-on in their area.
For example, users will also be able to search what’s happening in the other major areas, if they’re planning a trip in the near future.
The feature is only available in the 10 cities in the US right now, but, if successful, it’s sure to roll out around the globe in the near future.
The company has amped up the presence of Events in the last year by showing more and more public events within users' feeds.
Facebook has also reported (via Wired) that more folks are creating events and more people are RSVPing to them, while continuing to frequent the pages for photos and reflection once the event is over.
