The proportion of China's demand for LED chips suplied by China-based makers in 2013 increased to 80%, according to LEDinside.
China-based LED chip makers generated production value of US$992 million in 2013, up 16.8% on year, and the value will reach US$1.182 billion in 2014, LEDinside indicated.
Due to keen competition, smaller LED chip makers have been forced out of market or merged with larger ones and consequently, the five largest makers together accounted for 64.4% of the 2013 production value, LEDinside said. Many major chip makers have shifted their focus the display segment to lighting.
In 2014, leading makers will increase use of 4-inch epitaxy technology, LEDinside indicated. Elec-Tech International will completely adopt 4-inch epitaxy technology in 2014 while Sanan Optoelectronics, HC SemiTek and Foshan Nationstar Optoelectronics are expected to have over 30% of production using the technology.
